De pedellen van Ibn Battuta verenigen zich in dit genootschap, welke is opgericht op achtentwintig februari tweeduizend en zes. Het lidmaatschap is open voor degene die het ambt van pedel vervult of heeft vervuld.
Het ambt van de pedel ontstond bijna gelijktijdig met de functie van de Rector Magnificus, rond het jaar twaalfhonderdvijfenveertig in Parijs. De pedel vervult een belangrijke taak binnen de vereniging als de ceremoniemeester, die het protocol begeleidt en bewaakt. De pedel zorgt voor een goed verloop van de constitutieborrel van de vereniging en zorgt ook voor de verenigingseigendommen van Ibn Battuta en haar zusterverenigingen. De pedel is ook de bewaarder van het verenigingsvaandel en draagt deze bij officiële gelegenheden. Te allen tijde staat de pedel klaar om de belangen van de vereniging te verdedigen en de eer van de vereniging te koesteren.
Naast het feit dat ze klaar staan voor hun eigen vereniging, willen de leden van het Pedelgenootschap der Ibn Battuta, woonachtig in Groningen, ook graag de constitutieborrels van andere verenigingen leiden. Met hun luide stemmen, natuurlijke autoriteit en ervaring zullen zij ervoor zorgen dat uw borrel ordentelijk verloopt. Voor aanvragen kan er gemaild worden naar het onderstaande e-mailadres.
Elk jaar kiest het genootschap een nieuwe pedel uit de leden van de Faculteitsvereniging Ibn Battuta. De benoeming tot pedel betekent ook lidmaatschap van het genootschap. Op dit moment heeft het Pedelgenootschap de volgende structuur:
The beadles of Ibn Battuta unite in this fellowship, which is founded on the twenty-eight of February two thousand and six. Membership is only open to those who fulfill the function of beadle or those who fulfilled the function.
The office of beadle emerged almost contemporaneous with the function of the rector magnificus around the year twelve hundred and forty five in Paris. The beadle fulfills an important task within the association, being the master of ceremonies and guardian of the protocol. Therefore, proper conduct of the constitution drink of the association and the safety of association property of Ibn Battuta and her sister associations is ensured. The beadle is also the guard of the association banner and is the carrier of it at official occasions. At all times the beadle is ready to defend the interest of the association and to nourish the association’s honor.
Next to being ready for their own association, the members of the Pedelgenootschap der Ibn Battuta living in Groningen also like to lead constitution drinks of other associations.
